"Longmen Grottoes is situated on the mountainsides of the west and east hills along both banks of the Yi River south of Luoyang. The carving work began in the late Century Five A.D. The construction had been carrying on during Eastern Wei, Western Wei, Northern Qi, Sui, Tang and Northern Song Dynasties during over 400 years. At present, there are more than 2300 caves and niches , over one hundred thousand Buddhist images, more than 2800 pieces of inscription and about 8o Buddhist pagodas. Longmen grottoes is considered as a large scaled stone-carved art museum. It is also an excellent cultural heritage of human being." |
