It was 5 o'clock in the morning.
The sky still dark and not many traffic on the road. People were
still in their dreamland as today was public holiday
in Malaysia - Labour Day on 1st of May.
From Kuala Lumpur we heading
to Tanjung Leman where we going to board the ferry
to Sibu Island Resort at 11:00am. We reached Kluang
about 7:45am and stopped over for breakfast. After
a quick brief meal, we continued our journey for
another 2 hours before we finally arrived at Tanjung
Leman junction. There is about 25km drive through
the palm oil plantation, then arrived at Metro Parking
where you can park your car at the rate of RM
4 on the 1st day and RM 8 on the subsequent days.
Passengers already crowded the jetty waiting
for the crew to signal boarding. We collected the
boarding passes and joined the queue. Surprisingly,
majority of the guests are foreigners - mainly Singaporeans
and Westerners.
The ferry took 30 minutes to reach Sibu Tengah
Island where the Sibu Island Resort situated. It gives a refreshing feeling to the soul when first
stepping on the island. The environment and surroundings
are well maintained, the secluded beach matches
up with the soft sandy bay makes it a good hideaway from the bustling city life.
We were welcomed by the resort staff with live
performers singing and the mascot called 'BuBu' who is
a dolphin. All guests were served with welcome drink
which I think was a mixture of syrup and pineapple
juice.
While my friend was checking-in at the reception,
I was studying the activities board to learn about
the activities arranged by the resort. There are
snorkelling, fishing, jungle trekking, kayaking,
sunset cruise, island hopping, and etc. I saw a diving
excursion to Lima Island that cost RM 380 per diver
(lesser price if more divers). It sounds too expensive
for me! Due to this super-duper rate I decided not
to dive there.
We walked by the swimming pool, tennis court,
and then hiked up a little slope to reach our chalet.
It's a Superior Chalet with balcony facing the garden
and the sea view at the right hand direction. Everything
is pretty satisfying, except the bath room is slightly
small.
We settled down ourself, started talking about
the activities, scheduling when to do what. But
then we realised that we came here to relax and
not to fill our days with 'To Do List'.
We decided
to sign up the sunset cruise this evening at 6pm,
but it was not a confirmed departure because it required
a minimum number of passenger. For that afternoon,
we strolled down to the adjacent beach in front
of the resort. Resting at the beach hut , enjoying
the sea breeze and clear blue sky. We climbed up
the rocks and walked to the edge and found some
black sea urchins residing at the side of the baech.
As the weather was hot, we went back to the chalet
for a cool down after some moments under the hot
sun. Later in the evening we got the news that the sunset cruise didn't make a departure,
therefore we changed into swimwear and plunged into the swimming pool.
The dinner starts at 7:30pm in buffet style,
it's a combination of oriental and western cuisine.
The dining ambiance is pretty good, you can even
request to setup a table near the poolside, just
to have a romantic candle-light dinner. Adding on
to that, the duet are going from table to table
to perform fantastic songs. Just make a request
of any song that you would like to listen, they
know tons of numbers! I requested the song 'Betterman',
the singer mischievously turned the word to 'Fisherman'.
