Snorkelling
Yesterday we reserved our snorkelling trip to
Sibu Kukus Island at 0930 this morning. We woke
up early to make sure we have enough time for breakfast and prepare
ourself to the sea. The sky was
cloudy and drizzled while we had breakfast.
Luckily the rain stopped right before the departure.
I brought my own mask and snorkel, and rented
a pair of fins that cost RM10 for 3 hours. I think
the rate is high for equipment rental. After reported
ourself at the activities counter, we gathered at
the jetty waiting for the speed boat to send us
to the destination. It was about 5 minutes boat
journey. I was excited and expected to see fishes
while the boat approaching the shallow water. To
my disappointment, I hardly saw a fish when the
boat was there.
Sibu Kukus Island is a small island with no development.
We first found a place to leave our belongings then rush
to the water at the next minute. On the way, I discovered a crab shell which I think is beautiful enough to
add to my collection.

Defogged the mask, put on the fins and dipped
my head into the water. Oh my God! I saw no
fish only the sandy sea bed. Once a while, there was
only one or two Indo-pacific Sergeant passed by. Then why all these
people were here?! Just for swimming?! So I swam
a bit outward until I encountered some dead corals,
I saw a pair of Garfish almost at the surface of
the sea. Now I getting excited, quickly pointed
my camera to the direction, unfortunately the fish
has gone too fast. At the next moment, I saw a group
of fish swam toward and turned away at a far distance,
but I didn't see what fish was that. I swam further
out to the sea hoping to see more fishes and corals.
Yes, the condition here is slightly better, there
are hard corals, black sea cucumber, a small patch
of anemones, some Indo-pacific Sergeant, Damsel
fish, and others. I spent some times wandering there before
I realised that I was actually quite far away from
the shore and the crowd. As I didn't put on the
lifevest, it's safer not to go too far.
This time I got so lucky that I managed to snap
a shot of the Garfish and also a group of unidentified
fish at the sandy bottom. Then I swam over to the
rocky side. The luck was on me today, I was too
happy and excited to see something that I've never
seen in my dives! Guess what, I saw a cuttlefish.
I followed it quietly and steadily, and got a few
shots of it. Sooo......happy! Also, I spotted wrasse,
rabbitfish, parrotfish, and etc.
As the time almost up, the boat came and
fetched us back to the resort. I would say the snorkelling
experience at Sibu Kukus Island wasn't that great.
It has the least things to see as compared to my
previous snorkelling trips, except for the most
surprised cuttlefish, and also I appreciated the
Barheaded Spinefoot.
A lot of energies have been consumed in the snorkelling
session, felt hungry then. I ordered Prawn and Mango Salad, and Mushroom
Soap to replenish my empty stomach. Yummy, yummy, very satisfying! Rest
of the afternoon, we lazed in the chalet. We pulled the sofa out to the balcony, so that we
could sit there reading, chit-chatting, or just
enjoying the view. Our neighbour, a couple from
the UK also enjoyed sitting there for playing cards.
Like the night before, the dinner
was accompanied with the live music. But this time we
didn't get to request a number, because we already
finished our meal before they came to our table.
We left
for a night stroll at the beach front. With the
moonlight we saw crabs running on the shore, digging
holes to hide themself. The sounds of wave,
wind, leaves, and insects contributed to the natural
orchestra. What a beautiful night!
