Tutorial on Streets and Trips and laying out your Route

  • Download : Streets_Trips_tutorial.zip 140KB
  • How to make a COPY of a Route so you can Edit the Route with out messing up the Original so you can still play it.

  • 1st thing to do is go in the Route Editor and Open the Route you want to make a Copy of. After its open select Route/Properties and Rename the Route (Like Marais Pass Original) See here. DO NOT SAVE yet! Will do that it a min.
  • Then Open Explorer and goto the Route folder of MSTS and make a new folder. Name it what ever you want, but I named it Usa2a, as seen here.
  • After that, then Copy (NOT Move) the Contents of the Route you want to copy into your new folder.
  • Now got back to the Route Editor and select Route/SAVE.
  • Now you need to Close the Editors (ALL) then restart them and you will have the origianl and a Copy of it, witch you can Edit all you want, See the Screen shots of the Editor and in the Game.
  • Thats it, Thanks to KingJPW for informing me how to change the name of the route
  • Some people have expressed problems getting latitude and longitude for trackwork on existing routes. It is really quite easy and you don't need to go into the activity director and search the route maps. Just activate the compass (0 key) and directly below the compass heading indicator you can find the precise lat. and long. coordinates for the lead locomotive of your consist. Hope this is a time saver for many....it was for me.

New External View: hit Ctl + Shift + 9 key to toggle between tracking and non-tracking mode for View #4. Thanks KingJPW from the Train-Sim.com forums.

E-mail From Bud ”I have hooked up my MS Precission Pro Joystick to the MS train Simulator and programmed the most used keyboard commands to the buttons and hat. This way I don't have to continously search the keyboard, the commands are at my fingertips.from Bud Siemer

How to Add New Engines and Rolling Stock?

After you download the zip file. create a New folder in the directory  .....\Train Sim\TRAINS\TRAINSET\yourname (preferably the name of the loco or car) and unzip the zip file to that folder.

After that, Copy (NOT MOVE) the Cabview and Sound folders of the Engine (the README.txt file says. You do read those? right!) into that folder. After that you can goto the Activity Editor and add it to your own Consist.

Of coarse you don’t need to copy the Cabview and Sound folder for Rolling Stock, just Locomotives

!Recieved an E-mail from Chuck that said, ”All switches (turnouts) are available in the Explore mode (I think, I haven't tested them ALL yet). Some turnouts are locked out (not player switchable) during the Activity mode. Thanks Chuck
