On April 24, 1998, Panoz Auto Develoment Company issued a press release announcing the addition of Raul Boesel to its U.S. sports car racing team.  In addition to his duties driving for McCormack Motorsports in the Indy Racing League, Raul will also drive the Panoz GTR-1 sports car.  Panoz developed the GTR-1 in a partnership with the Reynard Special Vehicle Projects and Roush racing.  Reynard, who designs CART and other open-wheel formulas, developed a sleek, unusual design for the Panoz, often compared with the "Batmobile".   Jack Roush, who also provides engines for NASCAR, provided the powerful Ford V8 engine.


Raul piloted the GTR-1 in 7 events in 1998:
