Let me be the first to warn you to make sure that your anti-virus scanner is up-to-date before downloading and executing ".exe" files from strange websites!.

Hey! You know what?! You could save recipes on these things! (added Aug 23, 2003) - this is also a base link on my home page.

Here's my way-cool "Babylon 5" theme that I've been using on my PC since 1996 or so. I didn't create it, but I've included some alternate selections that you can choose. Note that the zipfile contains a subdirectory or folder. Compatible with Windows 95, 98, and possibly, but I'm not sure, Windows 2000 and later. 786 kB (binary; 1k = 1024). (Posted Feb 3, 2004).
-You'll need the Zip program, which you can get from http://www.winzip.com or http://www.pkzip.com / http://www.pkware.com, if you don't already have it. Microsoft Windows XP reads zip files as "compressed folders" in Windows Explorer (right-click on the Start button and select "Explore"). Lastly, here is the final version for MS-DOS: pkz204g (as of Feb 1, 1993!) -- .exe -- renamed to .zip -- when downloaded it is openable as a zipfile (in WinZip, at least) or you can rename it .exe and run it in MS-DOS to unpack it (which is all it takes to install for MS-DOS). See my F&SF page for the link to a B5 website (or two).

Here's a nifty little tune whistler. You can fairly quickly and easily type in music into a text file using a simple scheme that's explained every time you run the program, and the computer will play it for you, so that you can find out what the printed music would sound like. Click here to download this little "PC Player" executable that runs in DOS (a zipfile that includes the sample music files). Although I can specify an exe file in Netscape Composer and it works on browsers on my local system, Geocities won't let me upload a file of type .exe, not even if I rename it something else first.
I've uploaded it as a zipfile, which is the easiest thing, because it makes it a lot easier to send the .sng (actual song data) files, which are simply in text format with a .sng extension. You can look at those files as examples to clarify the description of how to create your own music files.
Songs included are (Title, filename):
"The Battle Hymn of the Republic", BatlHymn.sng
"Fellowship Going South", by Leslie Fish, based on "The Lord of the Rings", LFTB.sng
"Flight of the Bumblebee", Bumble.sng
"Hope Eyrie", HpEyrie.sng, by Leslie Fish
"O'Leary and O'Reilly", NCC.sng
"The Phoenix", Phoenix.sng
"Threes", by Leslie Fish, Threes.sng
See my F&SF page for Filk music

Here's a little "wav" file of a glass-breaking sound that you can download (useful for your "exiting Windows" sound): GlasBk.wav. Geocities let me upload this.
