results day

This scene occurs in the 1st episode. With the help of Machiko, Kotoko manages to get hold of a picture of Naoki dressed in girls' clothing when he was young. By 'threatening' to publicise it to the whole school, Kotoko succeeds in getting Naoki to coach her in her studies one week before the exams. Kotoko aims to get into Top 100.

Following up is many sleepless and tiring nights. On the day of the exam, Kotoko passes by Naoki in the school corridor and is delighted by his encouragement. Feeling inspired, Kotoko faces her exam paper with confidence. However when the results come out...

The most amusing thing about this scene is the way Naoki and Kotoko show concern for each other without realising it. Remember that they are just on the opposite side of the result board and yet, they are experiencing different waves of emotions --- both are anxious for each other's result before his/her own.

Kotoko's and Naoki's friends remark simultaneously that they are 'looking at the side of the board, which their names will never appear' (Kotoko looking at the front, Naoki at the back). Again, this signifies the extreme end which the couple are situated away from each other. Part of it may be the academic barrier.

Nevertheless, Kotoko's hard work finally pays off and Naoki's view of her changes for the better! ^_^
