A Dream is a direction for us to follow in life...
I personally feel that in the 6th episode, where we are shown that Naoki is feeling troubled over the lack of dreams is quite a significant one as in reality, it highlights the dilemma many of us are facing now. This is especially the case for the teenage crisis in Japan.
How many times have you been troubled over what to do with your life and what is living all about? Or, are you like Kotoko, who has multitudes of dreams in her mind? No matter what, the message sent across is that it is really worth it to just sit down and think carefully about our future. After all we live only once and it is crucial that we do the things we enjoy. Of course, I'm talking about the things which are morally correct and not those that inflict harm upon others.
Take a look at Naoki's portrayal in the show -----> Compare how distressed he is before the establishing of his dream and how the happy grin eventually appears on his face after that. No matter what, it indeed feels good to know that you have found the special significance in your life.
Of course, another level of meaning is to let Kotoko have a chance to do something for Naoki again. It is not hard to see that he is indeed touched by her efforts. Notice that he does not have the violent reaction (as he did in the 1st episode) when Kotoko hugs him in a moment of erupted happiness. Therefore, this can also imply another level of acceptance (of Kotoko) on his part.
