(1926 - 2009)

Hamid Ahmed Khan is the third son of Ghulam Mohammed Khan Saudagar (died in 1943, Picture) of Aurangabad. He was born in 1926, in the village, Amkini, in the Pusad, Taluka, in the Yavatmal Disctrict, Maharashtra.

Hamid Ahmed Khan did MSc in Industrial Chemistry from Osmania University, Hyderabad, in 1948. He enrolled in the PhD Programme but quit after a year to take up a job. He worked as a researcher in several laboratories including the CSIR (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) and the Regional Research Laboratory (since 1989, known as, Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, IICT). He has two patents and several publications. He worked as Quality Control Chemist in numerous organizations. With a command of the German Language and a working knowledge of French he was abreast with the latest developments in the world of chemistry. He tried to implement the best practices in the chemical industry (quality of the manufactured goods in particular) often leading to conflict with the owners of the industries. Consequently he had a very frequent change of jobs. In his fifty year carrier, his longest tenure (fourteen years) was at Hamdard (Wakf) Laboratories (Lal Kuan, Old Delhi). In 1960, he established the Quality Control Laboratory of the Hamdard (Wakf) Laboratories. His knowledge of Arabic and Persian came in handy, in referring to the classical texts of Unani medicine.

Soon after completing MSc, Hamid Ahmed Khan spent six months in Bhiwandi, with the renowned scholar, Abdul Wahid Samad Narvil (Rehmahumalla), to learn Arabic. Abdul Wahid Samad Narvil (Rehmahumalla) was the Founder President of the Aqsa Education Society, Bhiwandi (an industrial city, 48km northeast of Mumbai Mumbai (Bombay)).

Hamid Ahmed Khan married Nighat Iqbal Khan (alias Khadija, Picture), the youngest daughter of Nawab Mohammed Abdul Quader (died in 1943, Picture), and the grand-daughter of Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ghani Saheb Saudagar (died in 1898, Picture). Nighat Iqbal Khan died on Saturday the 23 May 2009 (29 Rabbi-Al-Awwal 1430), in the Sultan Qaboos Hospital, Salalah, Sultanate of Oman. She was laid to rest in the Qabrastan (Graveyard) close to the Masjid Zaweyah (see the Map) on the 23 July Street of Salalah.

Hamid Ahmed Khan's youngest son Sameen Ahmed Khan (Picture) married Noama Khan (Picture) the youngest daughter of Amirunnissa Begum, (alias Mahjabeen, Picture) and Nawab Nasiruddin Khan (alias Altaf, Picture) of Khujji. The wedding of Noama KHAN (Picture) and Sameen Ahmed Khan (Picture) took place on Thursday the 22 February 2001 (27th Ziquad 1421 Hijri) in Nagpur; they were blessed with a daughter Hajira KHAN (Picture), on Sunday the 07 November 2004 (23 Ramadan-ul-Mubarak 1425).

During the last six months of his life, Hamid Ahmed Khan had a medically challenging time. Thrice he had Paralytic Stroke, accompanied with severe muscular weakness, making him loose his very independent lifestyle, which was characteristic of him. He was hospitalized four times in the Sultan Qaboos Hospital, Salalah, Sultanate of Oman. During this period of severe muscular weakness, he was assisted by Pathan Mohammed Ali Khan (born, 1964, Picture). He enjoyed the company of the Pathan. The last five days of his life, he was semi-conscious and was fed by the Gastro Nasal Tube, at the Sultan Qaboos Hospital. He breathed his last at 9:13 AM on Monday the 6 July 2009 (13 Rajab 1430), with his elder daughter Ayesha Khan; youngest son, Sameen Ahmed Khan; the eldest grandchild, Ikhlas Mohammed Khan (son of Ayesha Khan); and the Pathan Mohammed Ali Khan by his side. The end was smooth without any medical interventions (respirators, ventilators, lung machines etc.). He died forty-four days after the death of his wife, Nighat Iqbal Khan. On Wednesday the 8 July 2009 (16 Rajab 1430, had just begun), he was laid to rest in the Qabrastan/Makbara (Graveyard) close to the Masjid Zaweyah (see the Map) on the 23 July Street of Salalah.
