Nighat Iqbal was born on 25 Ramadan-ul-Mubarak 1350 or 1351 (1932 or 1933;
the official documents carry the date 8 January 1935)
in the Nawabdom of
Kholapur
(a village, PIN Code: 444802, in
Amraoti Disctrict,
Maharashtra,
Map to Kholapur).
Her parents called her by the name Khadija, in fond memory of her father's eldest sister.
Nighat Iqbal's father was Nawab Mohammed Abdul Quader
(died in 1943, Picture), who was the son of
Nawab Mohammed Abdul Ghani Saheb Saudagar (died in 1898,
Picture).
The Father & Son were very progressive and were involved in numerous developmental activities.
They established a Madrasa (School of Oriental Studies, Persian, Arabic and Islamic Studies)
and a Masjid (Mosque); High School for Boys and a Separate High School for Girls.
They also established a Hospital and the Post Office
(Pin Code:
444802).
All these have grown
over time and even today are the principal institutions of the region.
Being the youngest in the family, Nighat Iqbal enjoyed an extra affection of her four
brothers and three sisters. Her first cousin (daughter of father's elder brother),
Habibah Begum
(Picture) was the only child of her parents.
Habibah Begum had a lot of affection for her cousins,
Nighat Iqbal in particular.
Habibah Begum was married to
Nawab Mohiuddin Khan Bahadur
(died on 09 August 1949 in Bombay/Mumbai, Picture), the
Nawab of Khujji and Behla. Khujji is in the
Rajnandgaon Disctrict,
of Chhattisgarh
(Map to Khujji).
Behla is in Maharashtra.
Habibah Begum died on 09 July 1967 in Nagpur.
Nighat Iqbal's youngest brother, Nawab Abdul Rafique Zafar did PhD in Botany, in 1957, from
Osmania University, Hyderabad.
He retired as the Head of the Department of the Botany, in 1986.
Nighat Iqbal (like all her three sisters) was very fond of education. All the four of them
ensured in educating their children against all odds. Nighat Iqbal took an extra interest in
attending the functions organized by various institutions. Over the decades she attended the
Annual Day Functions of numerous schools including:
Cambridge School (Srinivaspuri), New Delhi;
David Memorial High School, Hyderabad;
Little Flower High School, Hyderabad;
St. Ann's High School, Tarnaka, Hyderabad;
Salalah Play School, Salalah; and
Indian School Salalah, Salalah.
She also attended convocations of numerous universities including,
Osmania University, Hyderabad;
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur;
Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh; among others.
She also attended the Dastarbandi of several Madrasa including
Darul Uloom Deoband, Deoband.
Nighat Iqbal married Hamid Ahmed KHAN
(Picture) the third son of
Ghulam Mohammed Khan Saudagar
(died in 1943, Picture) of Aurangabad.
Many of the documents carry the name, Nighat Hamid Khan.
Hamid Ahmed KHAN died on Monday the 6 July 2009 (13 Rajab 1430),
Sultan Qaboos Hospital,
Salalah,
Sultanate
of
Oman.
Hamid Ahmed KHAN died forty-four days after the death of his wife,
Nighat Iqbal Khan.
He was laid to rest on Wednesday the 8 July 2009 (16 Rajab 1430, had just begun), in the Qabrastan/Makbara (Graveyard)
close to the Masjid Zaweyah

on the 23 July Street of
Salalah.

(Picture) the youngest daughter of
Amirunnissa Begum,
(alias Mahjabeen, Picture) and
Nawab Nasiruddin Khan
(alias Altaf, Picture) of Khujji.
Noama
Khan is the grand-daughter
of Nighat Iqbal's cousin, Nawab Habibah Begum.
This marriage is the result of the Nighat Iqbal's strong affection for the
family of her cousin, Nawab Habibah Begum.

Thursday the 22 February 2001 (27th Ziquad 1421 Hijri) in Nagpur; they were blessed with a daughter
Hajira
KHAN (Picture),
on Sunday the 07 November 2004 (23 Ramadan-ul-Mubarak 1425).
Nighat Iqbal Khan had a medically challenging time. During the 1950's it took the
Medical World (spread out in several cities) three long years to figure out
the cause of the severe and chronic abdominal pain: Appendicitis.
Nighat Iqbal Khan completely recovered from breast cancer in 2006.
She was operated and treated by
Dr.
Kamran
Ahmed
Khan
at the
Raheja
Hospital,
Mumbai (Bomaby),
INDIA. Kamran A Khan is an accomplished
Surgical Oncologist.
It is to be noted that Kamran Khan is the son of Aijaz Ahmed Khan, the younger brother
of Hamid Ahmed KHAN. She recovered completely from the
Nuclear Grade 2
breast cancer.
In the last seventeen months of her life she was hospitalized seven times in the
Sultan Qaboos Hospital,
Salalah,
Sultanate
of
Oman.
This was for her weak heart condition. The last month of her life
she was semi-conscious and was fed by the Gastro Nasal Tube,
Sultan Qaboos Hospital.
She breathed her last on 7:12 PM
just after Maghrib (sunset) on Saturday the 23 May 2009 (29 Rabbi-Al-Awwal 1430, had just begun)
with her son,
Farooq Ahmed Khan (alias Zaki) by her side.
The end was smooth without any medical interventions (respirators, ventilators, lung machines etc.).
On Monday the 25 May 2009 (30 Rabbi-Al-Awwal 1430), she was laid to rest in the Qabrastan/Makbara (Graveyard)
close to the Masjid Zaweyah
(see the Map)
on the 23 July Street of
Salalah.
