Passions rise over PaDS night of love at the Church Rooms!

With the approach of St Valentine’s Day, I find myself musing on unforgettable moments of romance past. Only last week, for example, the amorous muse struck in the Burgess household. Picture the scene. I sense her presence across a darkened room. We are alone, together at last. There is a moment of heady anticipation, a thrilling spark of uncertainty. Something electrical passes between us... a light bulb. The silence is broken:

‘Twenty-six years of married life and you still can’t change a bulb. Give it here! If I don’t change it myself, we’ll stay in the dark forever!’

‘But let us not waste this moment together’ I whisper, gently caressing the softly warm contours of her body in the all-consuming darkness. ‘If music be the food of love…’

‘It’s not and I’ve got dinner to prepare. And what are you doing to the dog?’

But what has any of this to do with PaDS, I hear you cry? (What, indeed? – Editor) Well, inspired by St Valentines, PaDS is presenting Love is…, a light-hearted look at love at 7.30 pm on Friday, 12th February in the Church Rooms. Love is… is an amorous miscellany of readings and antics especially by and for members of PaDS, their spouses, lovers and loved ones. Love is… is also for all those honorary luvvies who insist on remaining ‘just good friends’. If your passions are aroused and you would love to come, then whisper sweet nothings into the ears of Pauline Foreman (813 379) or Jean Burgess (812 167) and all will be revealed. Who knows, this could be the start of a beautiful friendship.

On the subject of revelations, I was hoping to be able to reveal more about the next major PaDS production at The Institute on 14th and 15th May. However, despite my best efforts, I still can’t break through the wall of security surrounding director Hain Ryan, as he completes the task of selecting the play and casting it. Rumours abound. All I can say for certain is that Moby Dick has now definitely been rejected on the grounds that it would probably contravene the Institute’s rules concerning performing animals. Hopefully, all will become clearer next month. Watch this space.
