Outside of their professional work, all managing directors have been active in the downtown Manhattan community. As founding members of Professionals for Active Learning, a volunteer program to link young adults in the community with professionals in their respective fields, their priority is to create a better system so that members of the academic and professional community can both have more opportunities to succeed.
Kim Foo Chow, Managing Director of Operations
Kim Foo Chow has worked in various industries and countries, including Hong
Kong, P.R. China, and the United States. Currently, he is involved in risk
management for a leading international banking firm in New York City.
Kim Foo graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Operations
Research & Industrial Engineering (Master of Engineering, 2001) and a degree
in Agricultural & Biological Engineering (Bachelor of Science, 2000).
Professionally, Kim Foo is applying optimization techniques and his years of
experience in technology operations to further maximize profitability for
the customers, shareholders, and the bank. By analyzing the risks and
managing projects to develop better practices, he would be able to help set
higher industry standards for risk management.
As Managing Director of Operations, Kim Foo is the initial point of contact
between the Professionals for Active Learning and community organizations.
He is active in the administrative functioning of the organization.
Joseph Chow, Managing Director of Programs
Joseph Chow is currently a transportation engineer in a transportation
consulting firm in NY. He has worked with other consultants as well as
the public sector to making improvements to the movement of people and
goods throughout the northeast region. He is co-chair of Student
Outreach on the Institute of Transportation Engineers Met Section and
a member of the Regional Transportation Systems Management &
Operations Committee on the Transportation Research Board at the
National Academy of Sciences.
Joseph graduated from Cornell University with a degree in Engineering
Management (Master of Engineering, 2001) and a degree in Civil
Engineering (Bachelor of Science, 2000).
As Managing Director of Programs, Joseph is responsible for working
with the PAL Catalysts to design, implement, and assess the workshop
activities.
Tommy T. F. Liu, Managing Director of Outreach
Tommy T. F. Liu's experiences cover many industries, such as Advertising, Education and Community Development. His involvement in the Lower East Side includes aiding members of the working community that were affected by the events of September 11th, 2001 by disseminating information on aid programs and linking individuals to job-training classes and healthcare programs.
Tommy travels extensively, including one year that was spent working in Seoul, South Korea as an English-as-a-Second Language instructor to children.
Tommy graduated from New York University with a degree in English Literature with Specialization in Creative Writing (Bachelor of Arts, 2000).
As Managing Director of Outreach, Tommy is responsible for maintaining inter-organization relations and reaching out to members of the community.
Feng Chen, Managing Director and Controller
Feng Chen is currently working in the Corporate Finance field of a major global financial institution. As a Financial Associate, she is responsible for streamlining reports, forecasting and budget analysis, interacting with an array of global controllers within the corporation. Her past experiences include Financial Consulting, where she collaborated with clients from various Fortune 500 companies on projects that generated approximately $3mm revenue per month.
Feng graduated from New York University with a double major in Finance and Information Systems (Bachelor of Science, 2000).
In her spare time, Feng mentors children. She has assisted in anti-gang seminars at the 5th Precinct Police Station in Lower Manhattan. She remains involved in various community programs. She is an active committee member to advise her corporation in funding community philanthropy.
As Controller, Feng is responsible for designing and implementing the financial management plan for the dynamic budget supporting the team. She is the authority in maintaining stability and accountability for the organization.
