Bestowal of Gloriana's Class Act award has been
discontinued, at least temporarily, while I am in the process
of establishing my own domain and expanding my internet design business.

Britannia
Britannia presents the best history site on the Internet, and varied other resources for the arts, travel, journalism, etc. I normally would not include sites maintained by major publications (which I'd see as generally unfair competition to the rest of us!), but this is one my readers must not miss. Simply outstanding!
Ship of Fools
Brilliant, hilarious, and top-notch reporting makes this
journal of Christian unrest a total delight. The parts you'll be
tempted to believe are satire are all the more uproarious for
being true. Ship of Fools continues a tradition of tapping-one's-forehead at unlikely stories that dates to the days
when the apostle Philip asked 'can anything good comes out of Nazareth?' - a must see!
Luminarium
This exquisitely designed site presents medieval and
renaissance material (including detailed literary information)
in a delightful style. The Luminarium will be of special value
to students; for example, the literature sections provide not
only texts and online resources, but information about the lives
of the authors, pictures, and more.
TV Party
Irreverent, nostalgic, and refreshingly honest multimedia site, which deals with US television from the 1950s through the
1970s. Unlike many "TV" sites, which tend to consist of a photo or two and an episode summary, TV Party has varied categories
which will often surprise and as frequently stimulate the interest of anyone who remembers, or wishes he remembered, the
time when television was allowed to be a source of shear entertainment. (Today, the kids may be permitted to admit to watching an educational programme during their brief breaks from "mommy and me aeorbics", but entertainment is a deplorable pastime!)
Multimedia Beethoven Online
Brilliant! - and the first grand prize winner for 1998. Beethoven Online presents not
only high-quality musical selections but biographical and historical information, details about
the works, and explanations of musical forms. It is a musicologist's
delight ... take it from one who knows.
Martin's Dreams
Martin Raskovsky, distinguished for his contributions to the field of information technology, reveals an outstanding talent for art, poetry, and essays - with an effect that, indeed, brings dreams to mind. Original text is presented in English, French, and Spanish, yet the images are even more breathtaking.
(To meet my "safe surf" rating requirements, I shall add that Dr Raskovsky features nudes in his work, as did Michelangelo, but not in depictions that could possibly offend anyone.)
Peggy Lutz Plus
Both the site and the products offered here are refreshingly innovative and glamourous. Peggy Lutz offers distinctive, elegant, high-fashion clothing, custom designed for ladies who wear US sizes 14 to 40 (UK 18+). No dull neutral shades or "hide behind" caftans here - the selection, whether for formal or casual wear, would put one in mind of a Parisian designer. Though commercial sites rarely receive my "grand prize", the uniqueness of this site, which offers the customers their choices of design, length, fabric, etc, at affordable prices made Peggy Lutz an exception to the rule - in more ways than one!
Navigator Technologies
- CTI Select Dealer for Applied Voice Technology
Though it is singular for this award to be presented to commercial sites, the presentation of computer telephony integration products here is excellent. Navigator services the northeastern United States, and their offerings of interactive voice response and related technology are presented clearly and thoroughly. Design is slick and classy - not the clutter that too many high tech sites display!
The Schizophrenia Home Page
Comprehensive site with many detailed resources.
Ann-S-Thesia's Aesthetic Pharmacy
Excellent graphics design and rich humour await you here. Borrowing the authoress's words: "The Pharmacy was designed and created by fine artist Ann Stretton, a
featured MetaTools Spotlight Artist, and is a virtual art gallery of
Ann-aesthetics and Ann-imation. It features Ann-imated Kaleidoscopes,
Laser Lights, Lava Lamps and Magic Carpet Rides. The Annie Warhol
Gallery (get your own face Warholized by Ann!), Fractal Fonts, and The
Vortex Gallery are a few of the many non-animated galleries as well.
There is also The GIFShop--a place to get free souvenirs. As well as
being a treasure of visual delights and graphics, the Pharmacy also
offers a look at the personal side of Ann, her oft-described biting wit,
her essays about art, politics, and her many animals."
The Internet Renaissance Band
This excellent treasury of medieval and renaissance MIDI music is the work of Curtis Clark.
I am pleased to recognise a site that is not only original but which will introduce many
of the WWW community to the delights of early music. (Of course, Gloriana
is happy to note that compositions by Henry VIII are amongst those included!)
Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark
This site is extremely valuable and comprehensive - and, unlike
many of its kind, attractively presented. Among its offerings are the treatment of political and social issues, pastoral letters (with links for further research), articles, descriptions of ministries, history,
a directory of their 238 parishes, and details of the visit of
Pope John Paul II in 1995 (including a photo gallery). It is a model for religious sites.
The Victorian Web
This site is a scholar's delight, with extensive information
not only about cultural, literary, religious, historical,
and social aspects of the Victorian Era in general, but separate sections
about many prominent individuals of the period. I visit it time
and again. Don't miss this extraordinary site.
Laura's MIDI Heaven
This beautifully designed site has a collection of over 6,000
MIDI files, organised according to category. (For example, those
who love show tunes can click the name of a show to find what
music Laura has available.) Fun, extensive, and superbly indexed,
this site will delight any MIDI fan.
Literary Works of Sanderson Beck
Bring both an open and a keen mind to this extraordinary site, which I have yet to see equalled
for content. Philosopher Sanderson Beck shares extensive writings dealing with world peace,
history, spiritual philosophy, and many more topics than I can begin to mention here. This
site is a scholar's dream - absolutely outstanding.
Williamsholler
Tommy and Judith have undoubtedly created the most romantic space
on the web. Their newly redesigned site is breathtaking. Amongst the offerings are original backgrounds and graphics (linkware), original MIDI files, poetry, and texts that are a lovely illustration of a couple's and family's love.
The Libyrinth
The Libyrinth, a site devoted to Umberto Eco and his writings, is a superb example of literary
research and presentation. The writing and interpretation here is brilliant.
Lady Jen's Page - The Writer's First Stop
During my extensive career in surfing the Web, I have rarely found a site more
useful for writers and those who are interested in the Middle Ages. Lady Jen's
page will delight the scholar, or anyone who is interested in new and
intriguing information. She also provides valuable resources for creating Web pages.
Romanae Antiquae
Meet the women of ancient Rome - caput mundi! (You don't know Latin? Well, today the
caput mundi is Brussels.) This intriguing site
will delight anyone with a love for the ancient world - and has an original
and fascinating perspective.
Avalon - Arthurian Heaven
Both the scholar and those who are merely intrigued by the Arthurian legends will find much of value here!

Students
delphE's dwelling
This "cluttered" spot, as Delph describes her place
in cyberspace, is an enjoyable interlude from the perspective
of one who loves France and studying abroad. At first
glance, it appears to be a page of links - but many
are links to her own work.
Die Deutschekulturseite
The youthful Jason Geodsey provides us with this enjoyable, interesting
geography site, dealing (of course) with the Germanic countries.
Lady Guinevere's Dreams Page
Ingvild presents an interesting look at dreams and their meaning, and
very well designed, original graphics. The Lady Guinevere is a founding
member of the Maidens of the Heart, a branch of Ladies of the Heart for those
in their first youth. (I love that romantic term for the young.
I am in my fifth youth, I believe.)
ThE MoSt WoNderFul SiTe on EaRtH!"
(Laura is 17 ... at that age, to name one's page in this manner is a sign
of enthusiasm...) Fun site with lots of music, angels, aliens, and pondering
the ins and outs of life.
Meghan's Home Page
Creative and fun. My favourite part was her adventures with driving!
The Official Wicked Hair Dyeing Page
This enormously fun site is maintained by a brother and sister who are students at Stamford. They obviously
are having a marvellous time with this "hobby", and offer their personal reviews of
various hair colour products. Panic Manic may be a little adventurous
for us baby boomers, but there are reviews suited to us as well.
Just Ask Cool Chick!
Entertaining look at the world of a fun-loving 17-year-old "chick" - whose
main "advice" is to have a good time. (I'd consider that a wise course
for any of us.) It's a fun site.
Alexandra's Home on the Net!
The "Angelic Devil" invites us to 27 pages of exploring "the world through the eyes of a ten year old." It will be a rich experience,
I guarantee. Alexandra, the youngest of the winners of the class act award, has much to teach
some of us about content rich sites. (And, like myself, she is a citizen of the world.) This treasure is from Malaysia, and includes information about the history
and culture of various countries.
Cyber Megatropolis
Fun, cool site with lots of "stops" for young people.
Lars Siefke's elektronische Heimat
Nicely designed site with personal, news, arts, and Zero Lemon sections (in German).
Andy's Home Page
No glamour here - this is a spot for the scientist, not the artist. Interesting hypertextual essay and a better-than-average jokes page. Andy Hayes is a math whiz and a student of computer science at Purdue University.
Stephan Wiehr
This fellow GeoCities Parisian, though his site remains under construction, offers us excellent resources about AIDS/HIV - as well as
some beautiful pictures and links to cultural sites.
Rex - King of the Web
Much as I hate to admit this...this one is far from being a class act at this point, and
consists mainly of links...But it's my 8-year-old nephew's site, so stop in and say hello!
