Places to go in Thun

Thun's center is quite small. There are 3 main streets: the Bahnhofstrasse leading from the train station to the center, the Bälliz shopping street with the more modern stores and the Obere Hauptgasse with the more traditional stores.

For things to do around Thun, check out the extracts from the Rough Guide, one of our favorite travel guides.

Places to Eat

Location
Altes Waisenhaus (the old orphan house), ($$$), Italian food with coffee bar area and outside terrace on the Aare river Bälliz 61, along the Bälliz shopping street
Manor department store, ($-$$), food court on the first floor Bahnhofstrasse 3, opposite from the train station
Coop Kyburg department store, ($), food court on the first floor Schwäbisgasse 1
Way to India, ($$), southern Indian food opposite from the train station, next to Mani's
Bahnhof Restaurant, ($$), Italian and Swiss food right at the train station
Eurasia, ($$), Thai food Obere Hauptgasse 28
Hotel Krone, ($$$), fine Swiss & European food Obere Hauptgasse 2
Migros, ($), pick up some take-away food and eat it along the banks of the Aare river Bälliz 2

Bars we like

Mani's, coffee & wine bar Panoramastr. 1A, opposite the train station
Starbucks, highly overpriced coffee for those who don't need Trish's approval Aarefeldstr. 16, opposite the train station

Stores we like

Steinmanns Confiseur, don't leave Thun without trying their freshly made and exorbitantly priced chocolate truffles... Bälliz 37 & Bahnhofstrasse
Lüthi Buchhandlung, a bookstore run by a cousin of Peter's Mom Bälliz 25
Krebser Buchhandlung, a bookstore run by another cousin of Peter's Mom Bälliz 64
