Local Transportation in Thun

Thun as well as Gunten are situated along the right side of the Lake of Thun. You can get around very easily with public transportation. For an interactive map click the map below.

Bus

Once in Thun there is a bus that runs from the train station along the lake. The buses are also prompt, spacious and again clean. The fare within the city perimeter is SFr 2.60 full fare and SFr 2 if you have a Swiss Pass. Thun - Gunten costs SFr. 5.20 full fare.

Useful links: Map of bus routes. Line 21 Thun-Interlaken and  Interlaken-Thun follows the lake and serves Gunten, among others. Line 1 Thun-Spiez goes from the train station to Scherzligkirche. Online bus schedules are also available at www.rail.ch.

Taxi

There are taxicabs available right at the Thun train station. For more info, check out www.thunersee.ch, Oesch taxi.

Car Rental

Car rental is either available at the airports in Zurich and Geneva or in Thun. Check out Hertz, Avis, Eurocar, Mobility, RailLink. You'll probably be better off reserving your car from abroad, rather than renting it directly in Switzerland.

Boat

Passenger ships connect many of the villages along the lake of Thun on a regular schedule. Thun, Hünibach, Hilterfingen, Oberhofen, Gunten and Interlaken are among them.
Boat travel is slow but weather permitting you can enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding mountains and towns. The stop in Thun is right opposite the train station. With the Swiss Pass you get 50% off your fare.
