A Comment Regarding Some Insulting Emails
Return to English Articles

Since I have published the article about Mumia Abu-Jamal's and William Cook's injuries ten months ago I have received some nasty comments via email. Interestingly, these insults by anonymous writers were not directed toward me but toward Daniel Faulkner and the police officers arresting Abu-Jamal. That article is not only about Abu-Jamal's injuries. It also deals with accusations against the police. Are these police officers fascist, racist pigs or are they honorable men and women in public service? The evidence available shows clearly that accusations regarding police brutality are simply not true. Maybe Abu-Jamal has been treated roughly but neither he nor his brother have been severely beaten.

The entire chain of events starting with Daniel Faulkner's call for support at 3:51:08 AM on 9 December 1981 until hours later in the hospital and the accusations resulting thereof are terrible exaggerations. Of course, history shows that some officers are brutal and some are corrupt, but this cannot be used as evidence in the Daniel Faulkner murder case. Arrest and treatment of Abu-Jamal were correct. He was not abused and the police did not try to kill him. Also William Cook was not stopped because he was black or DWB. It was either because he drove the wrong way down on 13th street or because of the condition of his car. Additionally, he was not the victim of police brutality.

Commentators who are motivated by anti-police ideology don't seem to accept that police officers like for example Shoemaker and Forbes are simply honorable men in uniform who take their job seriously. The accusations, which would require that these two officers were part of a conspiracy are insulting and they don't have a basis. In reality their actions can be described with one sentence:

"To Protect And To Serve"

to protect and to serve
