All about the boy band menudo who recorded reaching out, evolucíon, Can't get enough and much more.
Ricky martin was a member of menudo.
Menudo was formed in 1977 by the producer Edgardo Diaz. He
recruited his cousins Oscar, Carlos and Ricky Melendez and his neighbours Nefty and Fernando Salaberry.
His idea was to keep the band young by replacing older members. Their first LP was called 'A Todo Rock'
which did well in Puerto Rico, Mexico and amongst spanish speaking americans.
Menudo hit the big
time in 1983 when RCA, looking to expand into the spanish singing market, gave them a $30 million deal
to produce 6 albums in english and spanish. The band was rushed to english school in Florida and appeared
for 10 sell out concerts at the radio City Hall in New York at the end of 1983. They followed this by
4 concerts at Madison Square Garden. In all except the first LP in english 'Reaching Out' the youngest
member of menudo was Ricky Martin who has gone on to make a successful solo career. His voice as a treble
was considerably weaker than the other latin american singer Luis Miguel who was polpular at the same
time. They became successful in both North and South America and released records in Portuguese as
well as English and Spanish. However, by the time they released the album 'Can't get Enough' in 1987,
their audience, comprising of mostly teenage girls' decided they had had enough and Menudo faded away
from public attention.
