Nick Deocampo
is a graduate of theater arts, cum laude, at the University of the Philippines in Diliman. He studied at the Centre du Formacion Au Cinéma Direct in Paris and earned a master's degree in cinema studies at the New York University. He once headed workshops for the UP Film Center and organized such festivals as the Manila Short Film Festival and the Quezon City International Super 8 Film Festival. He has acted as executive director of the Mowelfund Film Institute since 1989. He secured celebrity with Oliver, a film he made in 1983 after his Paris stint. He followed it up with other titles that won for him more recognition: Children of the Regime; Revolutions Happen Like Refrains in a Song; Ynang Bayan: To Be a Woman Is To Live in a Time of War. FAMAS gave him a lifetime achievement award in 1986. He was a Ten Outstanding Young Men awardee for cinema in 1995. His numerous films continue to tour many film capitals all around the globe. This year, he was named artist-in-residence for Walker Arts Museum in Minnesota, United States
