STUDENT WRITER GUIDELINES FOR THE LITERARY MAGAZINE
Print-Friendly View

ANY STUDENT OF PWHS MAY WRITE. You do NOT have to be a staff member. Just submit your original poems, essays, or other writings anytime between September and the WINTER BREAK (at the end of December) to Ms. Gardner (Room 117). You MAY be published in our May magazine.

Please follow these WRITING GUIDELINES:

1) All submitted work must be original (your own writing).

2) Give each essay, poem, or story a good title.

3) Use blue or black ink or type double-spaced on one side of the paper only. Keep a copy; we do not return copies given to us.

4) Write each poem or story on separate pages. (Do NOT write two poems on a single page.)

5) Use very legible handwriting or printing. Editors will not attempt to read illegible submissions.

6) Proofread your own writing for spelling and other errors. You may make neat scratch-outs and additions. Do not submit sloppy work.

7) Do NOT put your name on the front. On the back in pencil, print your name, grade, homeroom # and teacher, and home phone number.

8) Number each additional page of a several-page story or essay, and staple or clip pages together.

9) All submitted works will be photocopied WITHOUT YOUR NAME, numbered and read and evaluated by the Literary Magazine Editorial Staff; works with the highest ratings will be published in our May magazine.

10) All authors whose works are selected will be invited to the May magazine publication party and will receive a free copy of the magazine. The magazine is sold each May for $2.50.

Good luck! Submit your writings NOW!! All writing must be submitted before the Winter Break, if possible. Occasionally some writing will be accepted for consideration in January. The staff uses the rest of the school year to make final selections, type, proofread, do illustrations, and complete layout.
