m116 Sporting Life -- Blue Backgrounds

Offered up as a premium to subscribers of the Sporting Life newspaper in 1911. 287 different players were included in this set with some players appearing on multiple cards. Card fronts feature a colored portrait photo of the player similar to the e103 set on one of two different variations of background color - either a bright blue or a dull grey pastel. The cards featuring a blue background, such as the ones below, are scarcer and command a higher market value than the pastel equivalent. The backs of cards from this issue carries one of three different advertisements for the Sporting Life.
