Caramel "Set Toughies"

Caramel set collectors will know the cards listed on this page very well. These are the cards that always seem to be the final card or two that a collector needs before finishing that particular set off. There are many reasons why certain cards are harder to find than others. Perhaps it's a variation that was short-printed; maybe the card is of a player who wasn't very popular back in those days so fewer cards were kept of that individual; perhaps it's a popular HOFer or other player who's cards are in greater demand....

Whatever the reason, there are cards that give collectors fits when trying to finish off a set and the few I have below are good examples. I've included a few notes about a couple of them below as well. Many of these are also some of my personal favorites in my collection.

e102 Wagner (fielding) - A terrific example of a card variation that was short-printed and is now causing e102 collectors a lot of grief to try and find. As if Wagner cards weren't expensive enough as it is, this particular Wagner only comes around once every few years to make this one all the more sought after. Another of the e102 variations, the Doyle - batting is also below. This is an underrated card and the card I would designate as the most difficult to find in the entire set.

The e90-3 Hahn and Payne are the two primary reasons why the e90-3 set is harder than it appears. These two are, far and away, the most difficult e90-3s to try and find. The "blue variation" of Payne may be the only one in existance. The e103 Wood is a card that you don't hear too much about, however I find this to be the 2nd toughest card in the e103 set behind only the Tenny, a truly brutal card in terms of it's scarcity.

The e94 Grey Back is the only known e94 to have this background color.
