Plot
It was a few days before Christmas when seven year old Steven Stayer is abducted just outside his school. When Steven is late getting home, the Stayers notify the police and they declare him missing. From there, they appear on tv and announce their son is missing, the police search for months, but they keep coming up empty handed. After searching everywhere and trying everything, the family can only assume that he must have been kidnapped or murdered.

After many years have gone by, the family, mostly Steven’s father Del, can’t accept that Steven is gone. Finally, one evening, seven years after the kidnapping, the Police tell the Stayners that their son has mysteriously appeared at the station and told them everything that had happened. As Steven explains the past seven years of his life, his family learns that he has been living with his abducter, the morbid child molester Kenneth Parnel.

The story is told in two parts: the first dealing with Steven’s life during the seven years of abuse with Parnel, and the second consists of the results of Steven’s impact on everyone’s life after returning. After Steve has returned to his family, he finds out that being apart from his parents and siblings for so long has cause their relationships to diminish, and he realizes that he no longer knows his family.

Sadly, shortly after this movie was released on May 22, 1989, the real Steven was killed.
