Tool-Fixing Tools
Tool boxes and tools can pile up. Make sure you have the right tools
in the right place:
A good toolbox should have compartments or trays. Make sure it has separate
places for nails, screws, nuts, bolts, washers, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, and a hammer. These
are most likely the things you'll use most.
Keep a separate box if you don't have space in your tool box for specialty
tools like rivets, poster hooks, or whatever you have that your don't use very often.
If you have a tool shelf or an area where you do your work, hammer in a few nails or hooks to
hang a drill, hammer, gloves, soldering iron, eye coverings, and other larger items.
Small clear boxes are useful for small nails and items that you use in large quantity. Make sure they're
clearly marked.
If you have items that you don't know the use of or are only 1 or two small things or look like broken pieces,
throw them out. If you're sure you need it but not sure exactly where, you can make a small box for "unknowns"
and go back to it every so often (monthly at least) to clear it out of junk.
When you work, keep your shelf or counter as neat as possible, and not cluttered with tools and nails and screws.
When you're done, clean up and put things back where they belong. It doesn't take long
and it will save you trouble later.
You'll be ready for all those fixer-uppers and almost any household emergency.
