The basic soccer uniform consists of a jersey, and a pair of shorts.  For protection, you must also wear shin pads and a jock (for boys and men).  A goalie also needs a pair of gloves for catching the ball.  If you need to wear glasses when you play, you should wear goggles over your glasses to protect them.

On your feet (which are the most important body part for this game) you need special shoes called "cleats."  Cleats have little metal or plastic bumps on the bottom so that you can run more easily on wet, muddy fields.

Soccer is a great sport for kids to play because you don't need any special equipment that is expensive.

Players on different teams wear different coloured jerseys.  This is so that fans and referees can tell the players apart.
