The last World Cup was held in France in 1998.
On July 11 a crowd of 80,000 watched France upset the 1994 champs Brazil.
The World Cup is held every four years and will be played next in the year
2002. It will be hosted by Japan and Korea.
There is also a women's World Cup. On July
10, 1999, the US women's soccer team defeated China to win the women's
World Cup. This game was held in Pasadena, California at the Rose
Bowl. The women's Word Cup has held 3 times only so far. The
first time was in 1991, again in 1995 and finally in 1999. The US
has won the Cup in 1991 and 1999.
Notice that Canada has not won a soccer World Cup--yet!
