On Lions

Lions are one of my favourite animals because of their dominance. Its nice to see the dominant and the others. It reminds me of how we act with our queens and mayors. These animals don't only take power, they fight to the death.

Lion couples mate 2.2 times/hour. Surprisingly, their partners hardly ever fight over mating
rights. The first to get a females attention becomes her mate unless he has had enough. As partners they usually do not fight as it would destroy their ability to defend themselves from takeover attempts.

Hunting groups usually involve 3 to 8 lionesses moving on a plain in an attempt to get the victims into ambush or block the victims escape route. Males only hunt for themselves when no free lunch is provided by lionesses, hyenas, or other species. Lions hunting in twos and groups have a success rate of 30%, compared to only 17 to 19% for lions hunting singly by daylight. But recent studies indicating that single hunters are about as successful as groups at night.

Intoduction by me.
