Set for Magic: the Gathering

Welcome to the Solstice set home page! Solstice is the second set in the Verdict Block, and features 165 all-new cards, plus new mechanics that enhance the themes of the block. It will let you master the winds with the Aeon enchantments; play Otherwordly spells twice (or more) for the price of one; and even revisit classic enchantments with the Ephemerous cards.

Solstice has been designed for playing with Apprentice (download the full patch on the bottom of this page). Please give it a try. If you want someone to play against, drop me a line at ricklongo@mail.com.

New Mechanics

Evolution NUMBER (At the beginning of your upkeep, if this has less than NUMBER evolution counters, put one. Otherwise, it has evolution)
- When a card reaches evolution, it gets the abilities described after the keyword "Evolution NUMBER" on its card text
- A card with Evolution X has evolution as long as there are X or more evolution counters on it. If it has less than X evolution counters, whenever it gets to X or more counters, it gets evolution right away.

Expanded Mechanics / Themes

Solstice features the mechanic Alternate, which originally debuted on Verdict. It also expands on the Unchain mechanic and on the counter theme.

Tweaks on Unchain
- The Solstice set makes it matteer more if a card is unchained or not. There is a cycle of cards (such as Rogue Intimidator) that count the number of unchained permanents you control. Of course, they have the unchain mechanic themselves!
- There is also a cycle of cards (the "MMilitants", such as Kampa Militant), one in each color, that helps you with alternative ways to unchain cards.

Boosts on the counter theme
- There's just one single boost on this theme, but it's a significant one in limited: now, most of your counter-based cards got counter self-adding abilities. This can help you go really big with cards that count the number of counters on a permanent you control (such as Verdict's Stream of Electrons), plus provides you with more fodder for cards such as Eye of the Eclipse and Materialism.
