We're looking for enthusiastic people to join us at River Cliffs
Weyr. We need riders, candidates, people from the Lower Caverns,
Holders, and even Renegades- we need interesting characters and
enthusiastic writers. We're looking for quality over quantity . You don't have to produce volumes of writing- just
what you're comfortable with. Below you'll find instructions
for how to apply and links to our persona sheets. Send your
completed sheets to BOD
for approval. If you're accepted, you'll receive an invitation
to join our Yahoo! Groups list.
WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
FOR THE FOLLOWING IMPORTANT POSITIONS!
We are still seeking bronze riders, including Wingleaders and
potential future Weyrleaders! More Queen flights will occur in
the future and could use all the participants possible. We're
looking for interesting bronze riders, too-not just your F'lar-clone
stereotypes. Please fill out a persona sheet and sent it and a
writing sample to the BoD.
At the moment, most positions are open. We are looking for wing
riders (especially female and male green and blue riders) and there's a clutch on the Hatching Ground,
so candidates are needed too- for all colors! We are also seeking
Holders.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Read our RULES.
Read 'em again.
Read them one more time.
2. Download the appropriate persona sheet:
[Riders, Candidates, & Weyrfolk], or
[Holders]
3. If you want to adopt a character, check out our
Wing Lists,
Candidates Page,
Lower Caverns,
and Holds & Holders.
If there are available personas, they'll be linked at their names.
Read them over, and if you like one, download our
Adoptables sheet.
4. Send your complete form (and, if you are applying
for Wingleader or Weyrleader or Craftmaster, a writing sample) to the
BoD.
We will review your persona and get back to you.
5. When your persona is accepted, you will receive an
invitation to join our e-mail list at Yahoo! Groups.
This is where our play-by-email will take place.
WHAT WE ARE NOT LOOKING FOR
We do not want cliches. What is a cliche? Here is a helpful list, courtesy of
Far Jordan Weyr.
Also check out Cibryen Weyr's Satire of a Gold Rider.
(Thank you to FJ and Cibby's webmasters for the links!) And here is
our own example of what we are NOT, repeat NOT, looking for,
H'unk, The Flawless Bronze Rider. And
when doing our female rider personas, please think, folks- they
have to wear riding helmets, and they have to be able to tuck
their hair under said helmet. In other words, a rider who keeps
hair down to her waist is gonna get it singed off. Anything longer
than shoulder-length and, unless it's EXTREMELY fine (not curly!)
you're not going to be able to get it coiled up far enough. Besides,
ever had hair down to your butt? Split ends, anyone? Tangles? Snagging
in things?
When you're writing about how your character just ADORES everything
about being a dragonrider, you should keep in mind that we- the BoD- think
that being a dragonrider is much more comparable to being a jockey than
a fighter pilot. Jockeys- in thoroughbred horse racing- have the highest
fatality and injury rates of any athletes, bar none, and you have to be
slightly crazy to go back out and do it again after your compound fractures
heal. Being a dragonrider isn't all fun and games!
Some Points to Consider
Remember when creating your character to think about where the
Weyr and the Holds are located- we are located in the Southeastern part of the Southern continent. It's warm and temperate, with long hot summer days, and
warm winter nights that can last. It's a tough, mountainous country
surrounding the Weyr and Holds. The major hold industries are things
like fishing and farming- the food crops tend to be hardier though. The
Weyr and Hold are fairly isolated except by water or by dragonback,
runnerbeasts would have a hard time getting through the mountainous
terrain. You should also take into consideration
the personality that would want to move to weyr or Horizon Cliffs Hold. They
have to be tough, brave, crazy, a little of all that, or have been
dragged along by someone else who was. Don't be afraid to ask the
BoD for advice! We're here to help and we'd
be glad to answer any questions you might have.
