Toy Hype - Omega Supreme There's going to be a pretty large Toy Fair wrap-up soon, but I just COULDN'T resist reporting on this now. I'm about to commit sacrilege here... I never liked Omega Supreme. Let's be frank here, as a G-1 piece... he was kinda boring. Let's see, his body was a tank with a small turret on it, his arms became this rocket, and his legs became the rocket launching base. Ok, ok, not horrible by any means either, but if you're gonna carry yourself as THE defense base for the Autobots, you better be packing a LOT of firepower. Metroplex, now you NEVER messed with him. Omega Supreme though... he just never seemed that intimidating to me. Well, now we come to 2004 and Energon is going nuts. The figures are getting seriously re-tooled, and the new looks are pretty sharp. Scorponok, Starscream, and Prime are all terrific pieces that show the new, more futuristic look Hasbro is taking with the line. No more cars changing into robots. Been there, done that. We're looking at futuristic vehicles, or just totally whacky stuff that turns into hulking, butt-kicking 'bots. I can't wait to see what Landmine is like. Hehehehehehehehehehehehehe. Ah, and naturally Omega Supreme came up as one of the pieces to be revamped. Word floated around that it was a combiner of a train and an aircraft carrier.... Ugh! Well, the International Toy Fair is in full swing in NYC, and more info was being peddled to the press, along with the first promo-shots of the new piece. Ya know what, this thing looks like it's gonna kick some SERIOUS bootie! First, it's not a train and aircraft carrier. Ok, one half COULD be called a train. Personally, it's more like a self-propelled mega-heavy lift crane. The cab in the front, and the back end of the 'train' is a MASSIVE grappling arm that would put the vehicles in 'Monster Machines' to shame. The cab end forms the legs and feet while the crane end forms the right arm. This entire section forms the right side of Omega Supreme. The other vehicle is a battleship! All 'Starblazers' fans rejoice! This ship has four double-barreled turrets and a giant conning tower. Wow! The bow of the ship forms the arm while the aft end forms the legs and feet. This ship forms the left side of Omega Supreme. The two halves merge down the middle, forming an 18" tall goliath! It doesn't stop there. this thing can merge with Mini-Cons. No surprise. BUT, he also combines with Prime! The promo-shots I've seen have the four vehicles attached to Omega Supremes legs, right arm and right shoulder. Prime fits in a cavity in OS' chest, supplying the Power Links Prime head. Ok, this doesn't sound like the most impressive combination, but just the same the fact they designed a HUGE piece like Omega Supreme to link with a pretty large piece like Prime is very cool. There you have it, a new, snazzy, HUGE piece to save your pay-checks/tax refund for. ETA is July of this year... and not soon enough! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.... anyone for Fortress Maximus? Bwahahahahhaha! |
