Lost/Stray Animals
The Whyalla City Council is responsible for the management of stray Dogs and Cats in Whyalla. The Dog Pound is situated next door to the Whyalla Animal Shelter on Watts Street. Impounded cats are kept in the Animal Shelter Cat Centre.
The RSPCA will pick up straying animals on behalf of the Council when the Dog Management Officer is not available and out of office hours.
A list of animals currently impounded is available online at the Whyalla City Council website.
To identify your pet to get it back quickly, if it gets lost or strays, you should use at least one of the following measures.
- Collar with name and phone number or other contact details written in indelible ink.
- Tag with name and phone number or other contact details engraved on it (may be purchased from the Shelter).
- For Dogs - a current registration tag.
- Identification Tattoo on the animal (a desexing tattoo is not sufficient).
- Microchip inserted in the animal.
