Surrendering Animals

Members of the public are able to surrender domestic animals to the Whyalla Animal Shelter for a small fee. The Shelter will try to rehome the animal if it is possible.  Unfortunately some animals are unable to be rehomed for a variety of reasons. Some are too old, some have behavioural problems and some are no longer fashionable. Animals that cannot be rehomed are humanely destroyed.  The Shelter cannot accept farm animals or snakes and lizards.

In an attempt to reduce the numbers of animals surrendered we ask people to carefully consider the choice of pet they make. It is important that unless you are a registered breeder, that all cats and dogs be desexed. This will significantly reduce the number of animals that have to be surrendered in the future. It is also important to train your dog so that it is not a problem for you or a nuisance to others.

If you need to surrender an animal, please contact the Whyalla Animal Shelter, 7 Cook Street, Whyalla Norrie SA (phone 08 8644 0172) between the hours of 10 am until 4 pm, Monday to Friday or 10 am - 12 noon, Saturday.
