It was O'Connell who made Evy read the spell out of the Book of the Dead if you remember - so he shouldn't have been so hard on her later in the film.

There is a lot of Hieroglyphic wording inscribed and written all over the film set (and some of the characters!) of the 1999 remake of The Mummy. A lot of it is a load of old rubbish but some of it does make some sort of sense... Here for your delectation is are translations of the ancient script and a bit of practise for me.  I'Ve also added a page on the  Arabic spoken.

The the puzzle-box key used in the film contains some interesting words to translate.

"Death will come on swift wings ..."

"We the Med-jai would never allow it"

The curse on the box does mean something though and I can tell you where they got their ideas for the wording from too.

Even poor old Ardeth Bay got attacked with the Hieroglypic pen, although his don't mean that much ...
