Safe Haven's Vision

1. In order to reach the teens that do not fit into the established social system breakfast is served before school for donation only at Elizabeth’s Café. This gives the teens a place that they can go for love, support, and encouragement, along with one on one mentoring. This ministry has served and continues to serve as a vehicle to building rapport with the teens. And this rapport is growing into meaningful relationships.

2. This community of teens needs the love and support of Christ in a practical way. We believe Safe Haven can impact this community in a powerful way and best of all …do it for free! As we review the current situation of Norwood, it is obvious that something must be done and that God has set us apart for this. He has dropped these teens right in our lap and given us the respect level necessary to make a difference. God’s hand is upon us and we move forward as He leads!

3. The money situation is top priority at this point. We are meeting with area pastors to discuss the possibility of partnership. We are also pursing grants and other educational assistance. The Lord willing, we will have the $3000 a month by July 1, 2002.

4. The space needs are also a major priority. Elizabeth’s Café is wonderful, but we are already growing beyond its capacity. We are discussing the possibility of using the Sanctuary of Vineyard Central Community Church or another similar location in the area. Summer plans will demand more space for the skate park, and the other programs.

5. In the coming years the teen environment will be a continuing challenge. Research is currently being conducted to pursue the possibility of starting a teen pregnancy/prevention center. Some pregnancy programs already exist so we are currently planning on networking with these organizations to explore how to meet this crisis. We plan to make a decision in this area by September 1, 2002.

6. We plan to establish a Learning Center to enhance the graduation rate and help bridge the gap of the Spanish Community. We have access to a number of computers along with some very well educated volunteers. We project to move into this role in January 2003.

And if he finds the missing sheep, he is happier about that one sheep then about the
ninety-nine that did not wander off.
In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones
should be lost. (Matthew 18:10-14)
