The Interesting Characteristics of the trip to Salawin
National Park :

Salawin National Park :
Head Office
It is the center of administration of the Park,
located at Ban Mae Salarb about 5 km.
from Amphur Mae
Sariang . It’s in the
small valley and its general atmosphere is very fine. At the back of the Park, there is the viewing point for the
fantastic sunset and is the
suitable place for relaxation after such a long time travelling. It’s
also the center point before going to other places in the Park
Salawin National Park :
Ban Tha Ta Fang Unit
The bank of the Salawin River is said to be the
highlight of Salawin National Park . Whoever miss it are considered to
be the ones who have not actually been here.
Ban Tha Ta Fang Unit is
by the Salawin River of which the
south is Ban Mae Sam Leap
and the north is Ban Tha Ta
Fang where there is a beautiful beach called “ Had Tan Kaew”
From this location of the Unit near Ban Ta Fang ,you can see the
panoramic scenery of the Salawin River and the Burmese bank.
In the front of the Unit office is the Salawin River bend
where a long line of
beach about 100 m will be appeared during the dry season when the water
is so little. This is the
suitable camping site for natural touching.
There is another viewing point at the top of the mountain to
which we have to spend nearly one hour climbing up the gradually
steep way. When arriving
there, we can see the marvelous winding river-bends of the Salawin
River.
Tha Ta Fang Community
is the old Karen Commune. The
first pioneer, the elderly “ Jor Ou “
with his wife and one child arrived in
2485 BE .From that time up to the present,
the elderly “ Jor Ou “is still here with the long legend and
history of the Salawin River. If
you come here , don’t forget to pay respect to him and listen to the
story of the Salawin River. This
elder finished Secondary school level
( M.3 ) and his son got the Bachelor degree. With the
nearly 80 years of age, he is still
strong and able to do the chores.
Here, there is The Border Patrolman School whose teachers have
taught the Thai-Karen children with endurance and dedication.
Don’t forget to stop by to boost their morale and if possible,
giving them some tidbits as souvenir
is surely better.
The Gong Khong River
flowing by the Karen village,
is shallow enough to be walked or driven across.
Owing to its natural beauty on both sides and interesting Karen
lifestyle , it is a must place for the travelers to stop by. About 17 km
from this spot to the Head Office is the scenic path, passing small
streams and Salawin Forest scenery, viewing spot for misty sea, sun
setting and the lining of Mae Sariang city
can be seen below.
Ban Pho-Saw -
Sao- Hin
is the Karen village situated by a stream . It is the
site for camping supervised by the Park ‘ s personnels.
The distance from the Head Office to Ban Pho-saw is about 60 km
and about another 30 km
farther to Ban Sao-Hin . The path is rather rough especially during the
rainy season. Only the 4 WD
vehicles can be used. Driving
across the stream is such an experienced and enjoyable type of activity.
Tham Kaew Komol National Forest
( Amphur Mae La Noi )
Though Tham Kaew Komol is a small-sized cave , but its
beauty is superb. Inside the whole cave, it is full of calcite ore which
gives the splendid glittering light when exposed to the light. This cave
has been developed to become a complete tourist attraction so that it is
worth visiting
and moreover there is a natural
hot spring in the neighborhood.
