August 18, The Inn at Long Trail - mile 1681.4
![]()
Sometimes I'm so predictable, I make myself laugh! I was so proud of myself last night for resisting the pull of a cozy Vermont inn, and stayed instead in a cozy mountain cabin while the rain beat down. Then this morning, after the best night's sleep I've had in ages, I started hiking the last 4 miles to the road...and my knee started to bother me on super-easy terrain and my B.O. suddenly seemed atrocious, and my rain -soaked clothes full of mud and in need of laundering, and I could feel my resolve melting away. I still thought I might just get my mail drop, rest on the couch while my laundry spun, make some phone calls and at least head out 4 miles to a campground, but I gave in and got a room. On the good side, though, at least getting a room today gave me the whole day to relax and enjoy it, rather than just a few hours last night.
I thought I would at least be responsible and skip the live Irish music down in the pub tonight so that I could get a good night's sleep (again) and get an early start tomorrow. However, it seems I will be able to enjoy the music even up in my room! I don't actually think it's loud enough to keep me awake too long but the noise of slamming doors of my neighbors might! Oh, for a quiet mountain cabin...
