August 25, Hikers Welcome Hostel, Glencliff, NH - mile 1769.6

I'm pretty sure Glencliff is smaller than my home town of Doon back in Iowa, but it is Grand Central Station for thru-hikers! Yikes, what a crowd of us here at the hostel, which happens to be across the street from the post office and the pay phone. For NOBO's, this is the last place to pick up cold weather gear before entering the Whites, so nearly everyone stops here at the PO. I arranged my schedule so that I would get here before it closed today, too, not because I need my winter gear (already got it) but I had a lot of other mail to get. A new record for me - 5 boxes and 2 letters! If this trend continues, I won't be able to carry my mail out of the PO by the time I reach Monson....

No complaints, though, I got some awesome stuff, as always. Tony picked me up a pair of "new" hiking poles at the last REI clearance sale, so he sent those here, plus I got new clip-on sunglasses to replace my previous pair, so dishonorably lost after their years of faithful service. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited to have sunglasses again, especially since my next week will include a lot of hiking above the tree line. I also got some awesome care packages from my mom, Aunt Lori and Aunt Marge - whoo hoo! I'm certainly making some friends tonight with all these goodies, but ain't nobody getting any of the almond pastries or the gummy worms. Those are all mine.
