September 4, Pinkham Notch - mile 1849.1
It's funny - the terrain today wasn't bad at all compared to what we've been doing in the Whites, but I was so exhausted that it felt like I was climbing Mt. Everest. I actually was stumbling at times because I was so tired, and even the smallest sections of uphill made me think I was going to collapse. Talk about frustrating! I get so disgusted at times with my difficulty doing this section, and I feel like I've been in New Hampshire forever. But there's nothing I can do about it except keep plugging along, so that's what I do.
Tonight I got a bunk at the hostel in Gorham, since we've got thunderstorms outside. I will actually hike into Gorham two days from now, so I'll be back again then. But for now, I hitched in from Pinkham Notch, just in time, too. Only a minute or two after I got in the car, the rain came down in torrents, and I was so glad to be safe in the car! There's a lot of hikers here tonight but hopefully I can still get to bed early.
