September 5, Carter Notch Hut - mile 1855

I believe I climbed my last White Mountain today, Wildcat Mountain. And it nearly flattened me! Wildcat was by far the steepest one I've climbed, which I find amazing since I'd never heard of it before today. In fact, I was laughing to myself today, thinking back to Pennsylvania's infamous rocks. I used to answer "Lehigh Gap" (in PA) when people asked what had been the hardest section so far. Today's climb made Lehigh Gap look like child's play! And I do wonder why PA gets all the credit for rocks. I see more rocks and twist and turn my ankles more times in one day here than I did in the entire state of Pennsylvania.

I had planned to hike another 7 miles today to the next camp site, but that plan quickly flew out the window when I realized I was keeping a wild and crazy 1/2 mile per hour pace! I'm still going to entertain thought of doing the rest of the stretch into Gorham tomorrow, but I may actually be better off splitting it into 2 days. We'll see how the trail goes tomorrow. It utterly blows my mind that so many people at the hostel slack pack these 20 miles all in one day. I couldn't do it if my life depended on it.
