Last night's run into Rangeley was extremely enjoyable, albeit very quick. As I was eating my dessert (cheesecake) at the restaurant, Bob, the B&B owner, came in and sat down at my table. He said. "Hello, Samwise, I'm Bob." He had seen me earlier on the phone down the street and assumed I was probably calling him. So when he checked his messages, he found out where I'd be and came to pick me up. In fact, not only did he give me a ride out to his place, he also stopped by the store on the way so I could load up on candy bars for the next three days. Then we went "home" - he has the most incredibly beautiful house on a pond. It's truly extraordinary. I wish so much I'd had the time to spend another day there, because it's a place perfect for relaxing and recuperating.
But Katahdin calls, so I was back on the trail at 7 this morning. Packa-Sandra and I shared a room last night since we both wanted to get an early start. Bob had quite a spread for breakfast, and we certainly weren't shy about digging in. I polished off two huge bowls of cereal, four pieces of toast with about 1/4 cup of butter on them, a banana and two powered sugar donuts.
Anyway, Packa-Sandra and I hiked together for the first 3 hours which I really enjoyed. I have only twice actually hiked on the trail with a partner on this trip (Max and Doreen) and it's nice for a change. We'll probably be on a fairly similar schedule all the way to Katahdin, actually, so maybe we'll be seeing a lot of each other in the next couple weeks.
