September 26, Campsite - mile 2066
![]()
I haven't the time or inclination to write much tonight; I believe this was probably the worst day ever on the trail. I'll sum it up and spare the gory details:
- Wet rocks, roots, mud everywhere -- must have fallen half a dozen times and always on my already-injured right side.
- Bloody elbow and softball-size bruise on my shin.
- Stopped for snack break, pack fell face-down in massive mud slick, plus everything inside fell out in the mud, too.
- Three large streams to ford with all the rain. Maine doesn't believe in bridges, and I'm already paranoid of fording from previous experience.
- Platypus hose begins to leak like a waterfall when I stop to refill it.
- Boot lace breaks during stream ford.
- Pack weighs at least 50+ pounds and my back is killing me!
I've never wanted to badly to get off this trail and go home in my whole life! I surely hope the rest of the "100-mile wilderness," which I'm now in, isn't as adventurous as today.
