September 26, Campsite - mile 2066

Little Wilson Falls

I haven't the time or inclination to write much tonight; I believe this was probably the worst day ever on the trail. I'll sum it up and spare the gory details:

  1. Wet rocks, roots, mud everywhere -- must have fallen half a dozen times and always on my already-injured right side.
  2. Bloody elbow and softball-size bruise on my shin.
  3. Stopped for snack break, pack fell face-down in massive mud slick, plus everything inside fell out in the mud, too.
  4. Three large streams to ford with all the rain. Maine doesn't believe in bridges, and I'm already paranoid of fording from previous experience.
  5. Platypus hose begins to leak like a waterfall when I stop to refill it.
  6. Boot lace breaks during stream ford.
  7. Pack weighs at least 50+ pounds and my back is killing me!

I've never wanted to badly to get off this trail and go home in my whole life! I surely hope the rest of the "100-mile wilderness," which I'm now in, isn't as adventurous as today.
