September 27, Campsite - mile 2077

View from Barren Ledges

I'm in a far better mood today (thank goodness!) but still easily frustrated by the tremendous difficulty of this terrain, especially when people who started 2-3 hours later than me catch up to me, pass me, and go 7 miles farther! I wish I knew how they did it.

Anyway, the weather's changing today and tonight, bringing in some very cool temperatures and some rain, too, I think. I'm hoping against hope that it might skip this particular section of Maine, but that's probably asking the impossible.

Today's major highlight: I saw a young bull moose! He was quite close and I got an excellent look at him as he casually trotted away -- what a magnificent animal! Rather than drop my pack and dig for my camera and miss seeing him in the process, I just stood there and watched him and enjoyed the moment for what it was.
