I'm laughing out loud with the pleasure of being here tonight! This is easily one of the best camping sites I've ever seen. I'm actually sitting in a swing - an old wooden porch swing - and watching the sun fade behind the mountains while a nearly full moon rises. In addition, there's a deck built here, a cooking pavilion with three picnic tables, a privy and a pump with potable water!
Well, I didn't do a lot of miles today but the ones I did were really beautiful. I finished climbing Schaghicoke Mountain early this morning, and then came down & into Kent, Ct. It wasn't a scheduled town stop for me, but I desperately needed a shower & some laundry, in addition to new footwear, so I decided to stop. Even though Kent is "yuppyville" & not exactly hiker -oriented they do have a good outfitter, who also offers a solar shower out back for $2. He had just finished filled it straight from the tap when I arrived so it was frigid.... not only that, the "towel" provided is a pack towel used by countless other hikers before me & simply hung in the sun to dry each time. But did that stop me? Nope! I jumped right in & got cleaned up and then ran across the street & put my nasty, rancid, not fit-to-be-burned clothes in the wash. I tried on the 3 pairs of boots they had in mens 12 and took their number in case I decide to get the best one, then managed to pick up supplies at the grocery store & pharmacy, eat lunch at the bakery, buy a book I've been wanting, attempt to call Tony, who wasn't in, & get back on the trial a mere three hours later. I hiked another 10 miles through hill & dale, rocks & rivers and now I'm prepared for a fabulous night's rest on Silver Hill.
