Site History
The DJ008® moniker was given to me by my chat friends on msn (there were like 5000 Tonys). Why 008? 1. Me chinese (8 is very lucky) 2. Sounds cool. 3. 007 just too lame.

This site was started sometime in late 1997 after I had done an extended (4 years!) DJ tour in Asia. Got into producing over there while living there & it was a blast. The income was more than decent, but I kinda lost the drive and finally retired from the decks when I returned to Toronto in 97. However, I still produced for fun & created this personal site originally for my friends from overseas to catch up on my latest mixes. The previous site at a mickey-mouse-operation-isp was a very simple one. Just 2 trks and I updated whenever the hell I wanted. Then in early 98, suddenly...

"Dude...u got a damn good mix!" said this stranger in an email (was hoping that person was a gal...heehee)

I was blown away...how this person get my email and my site? It turns out my simple-grade-3-project-website-wannabe popped up as #1 for "remix + mp3" & "chinese +mp3" in all the major search engines. It was embrassing, I had like 300 folks wandering in & out daily, reading my rantings (heehee), and without a clue to contact me (that stranger got smart, just reworked "~tlim" and slapped on the @). Being a perfectionist, I decided to add more songs, gather other DJs, submitted my sites to more engines, link to major "underground" mp3 grps and re-design the page. If I am gonna have a public site, it has to kick ass. It had to have a mission.

That mission was to be the #1 site for HOUSE music, showcase DJ turntablism/mixology, and introduce Chinese music to the Western world thru the use of mp3s.

Fast forward. So now, my site is #1 here and there. There are now over 2 thousand new folks visiting daily and hopefully I have accomplished what this site had set out to do. The new mission of this site is to be the "underground" version of NetMix. The only difference is that we use mp3 instead of RA and our DJs are arent that famous...yet. Hell...we gonna be better than them! (Oh yeah..that stranger was a HE...aw shucks~)

My first & prolly last attempt at this stuff. 8 of the biggest Trance/UK club choons of 99. Wanted to make this like a short megamix but u cant do that with trance - u have to respect the chords as its integral to the trk. Coming from the house skool, I tried to kill as many trance "breaks' with a pounding beat so that it wouldn't bore ya to death. Simple mixing, in & out but always with 2 trks on full volume. A "live" feel - (imagine 3 decks) - trks rammed after one another on full throttle. Tried not to make this a freight train wreck. Although this was self torture (took a lotta time practising and a tough time making this), it was an enjoyable learning experience - kinda like 15 years ago when I was learning to shift from rap to house music. Shouts out to my DJ friends from around the world - Strobe (nyc), Spam (hi), Motiv8 (lax), Modula (UK) & Cajjmere (CA) for using their voice samples.

Either the formula is highly successful or she's just supersitious...heh heh. Anyways, made this as a speed test of my newly reformatted PC. A deadly simple straight forward mix with subtle editing to squeeze all the 3 trks into 6 1/2 minutes. Made this in 28 minutes flat.

One of my first few house idols. As I was starting out mixing rap in the early 80's, his blend of rap & house along with other folks @ DJ International in Chicago convinced me to go all da way to house. Multi-talented, he composes, produces, mix, DJ, scratch & RAP...usually LIVE. Special thanks to Strobe for digging up some of these classics that I had lost a long time ago (its him doing the intro ID jingle). Made this in 2 hrs & was supposed to be clean mix without any efx. However, the file got corrupted (due to power fluctuations) & I had already deleted the previous drafts. Spent another hour trying to "clean" up the mix but was rushed (gotta take my computer for a tune-up) thats why its "dirty". 8 (Acid Thunder, Do U Want To Dance, Most Wanted, Yo Yo Get Funky, Hip House, Get On Up, Lets Go, Hip House) trks in-da-mix under 7 mins.

Although House music has splittered and diversified into stuff like Progressive house, Speed Garage etc, I am glad to see house music finally becoming big (although i wish NYC "underground" would be bigger). As a DJ, whether u spin house or hip-hop, it's all good. Just stay true to yr groove and keep things real.
