Science College, Patna
The Science College, Patna has been a premier institution and its alumni have won acclaim and laurels at the National and International levels in the fields of pure sciences, administration and technology. This college has produced eminent scientists, scholars, teachers and administrators. The College has the reputation as the best centre of learning in sciences in our country has spread all over the world by the good showing of its alumni.
The Science College Alumni Association came into existence during regime of Principal Kamta Pd., OBE, IES, named as Science College Old Boys Association (SCOBA). Prof. D. N. Sen, HOD of math was its first Secretary. He very effciently managed to work of the association for several years. His premature retirement from service due to serious illness was a great loss to Bihar Education Service and also to the SCOBA. Prof. P.N.Dey andProf.N.N.Chatterjee of the Math Deptt. carried onwith the work of the Secretary for a brief spell. In the meanwhile Principal Kamta Pd moved tothe Secretariat as additional DPI and Prof.P.B.Ganguly took over as Principal, Science Colege. Prof.M.N.Verma of the Deptt. of Physics became Secrtary of the Association. During the period mentioned above, the Old Boys Meet used to be held in I.Sc.(Physics) lecture theatre in an informal and relaxed way. Old students recollecting past memories used to narrate anecdotes and stories which were very much appreciated by all present. After retirement of Prof.P.B.Ganguly, Prof.M.Q.Doja became the Prinicpla. It was during his Principalship SCOBA's function was completely reorganized and attained great heights and to say the least, was the most attractive and the best function of this pretigious institution. The Old Alumni used to eagerly look forward to this meet. Ever item viz., the reception, passing round of snacks and coffee, the annual general meeting with entertainment, followed by contributory dinner was meticulously arranged, and puntuality for every programme was religoulsy followed. The dinner used to be exceptional one - a sitting candle light dinner with background music (courtesy Police Brand). Towards the end of the dinner three toasts were proposed : -
- The College,
- The Assocation, and
- The Chief Guest
Prof. M.N.Verma who was Secretary during Prof. Ganguly's time continued for sometime in Prof. Doja's regime as well. He was succeeded by Dr.Rai Bageshwari Nath Sahay of the Chemistry Deptt., who continued till the end of Prof. Doja's time. In view of the tremendous work load three more Secretaries were added. They were Dr.Sateyndra Swaroop, Sri S.N.Das and Sri S.K.Roy (all from Chemistry Deptt.).
Prof. N.S. Nagendranath was the next Principal and Dr. S.K.Roy continued as Secretary of the Assocation. Druing his time, the Annual meet of the Association was held almost regulary and the standard of the function was maintained to a very great extent. During his tenure Dr. Kapildeo Pd. Sing (Math), Dr. K. Pd. (Chem) and Dr.D.N. Ojha (Geology) acted as secretaries for sometime. Prof. Suresh Keshav succeeded Prof. Nath as Principal after his retirement. During his time only one Old Boys function could be arranged with Dr.S.K. Roy as Honorary Secretary. The meet was held on May,1973 and was well attended. All efforts were made to arrange the function as per tradition and it was quite a successful meet.
Prof.S.N.Das took over as Principal from Prof.Keshav. Unfortunately again the Annual function of the Association could not be held for about 11 years. Towards the fag end of his tenure, the Annual met was arranged with Prof. S.K.Roy (Chem) as Secretary. The function was held on 5th March 1984. This Meet though held after a long interval was a great success. All arragnments were made in accordance with its past traditions and were very much appreciated. Again 16 years have lapsed after Prof.S.N.Das retired. Old Boys Meet could not be arranged during two earlier Principal's regime. However , during the tenure of Prof. K. K.Jha (Present Vice Chancellor, Patna University), inspite of various constraints decided to hold the Annual Meet of the SCOBA with Prof. Shreedhar Prasad Singh as convenor of the organising committee.

The next SCOBA meet was held on 12th March 2000 in the regime of Prof. K.K.Jha (Principal) followed by on 10th March 2002 in the regime of Dr. J. Thakur (Principal).
In the General Meeting of SCOBA held on 12th March 2000, in the campus of Science College, Patna, the name of SCOBA was changed as Science College Alumni Association .This meet was held after a gap of nearly two decades. This meet provided a memorable opportunity to the alumni to know each other and share sweet memories. Several generations were meeting at one time and at one place. Many of them were meeting only after their student days, four to five decades ago. It was a beautiful scene to see them talking enthusiastically about the experiences of their student days, recollecting the memories of their teachers, classmates and fellow hostellers and sometimes even caricaturing their style and mannerism. They also remembered their lab-bearers and ward boys. They were keen to see each and every object with which was attached any of their memories. Thefeeling of home coming, the desire to remain a student of Science College forever was obvious on every face. In this meet, name of the SCOBA was chaged to Science College Alumni Association after making requests from ladies members.
On 10th March 2002, the Alumni Association meet was held in the campus of college and Gim. Hall. In the General Body Meeting of this meet, it was decided that a Website of Science College, should be developed. And the present, site is the result of that resolution. Also, development of database of all members of alumni association is being done and shortly, it will be on the web.
All ex-students of Science College, Patna are kindly requested to submit the attached form, so that their name can be added in the database of the members of the Patna Science College Alumni Association.
