Bloodwork came back, and (in addition to kidney, liver and muscle enzymes being high), Kai's white blood cell count was alarmingly high. We're not sure where the infection is coming from, but there's obviously something going on. Also, since his kidneys are all out of whack, no more bute for my crack addict.

After five days of antibiotics and no bute, Kai's white blood cell count is still high. His condition didn't go down anymore after coming off the bute, so that was a nice surprise, but it also didn't improve on the antibiotics. Dr. Ragon gave Kai a nice 10-day tub of antibiotics.

Less than a week after coming off the antibiotics, we came home to find Kai holding his head out and sideways, unable to turn left, and the whole right side of his body was twitching. He could walk fine, but was obviously in a lot of pain, and would not let us touch him. We put in a call to the vet, and waited. And waited. And waited. Kai continued to hold his head out and stand stock still. Every now and then he'd spasm and spin circles to the right. And then wouldn't you know five minutes before the vet and Sarah show up he bends down, his neck pops, and he seemed to be doing a bit better. He still spasmed occasionally, but in between spasms he seemed fairly normal. The vet seemed to think it was a flare-up of arthritis in his neck, and gave him DMSO and Dex.

Two days after DMSO and Kai is the most active we've seen in a long time. Chasing the pony around, and galloping like an idiot. Dr. Ragon took more bloodwork and some x-rays of his neck, and hopefully that will give us a place to go from here.
