Set up by the Government of India in collaboration with the Government of Gujrat and Indian industry as an autonomus institution in 1961, the institute provides education, training, consulting and research facilities in management.

The institute conducts the following programs :

• Two year Post Graduate Program in Management ( equivalent to MBA ).
• Two year Post Graduate Program in Agribusiness Management.
• Fellow Program in Management ( equivalent to Ph. D.).
• One year Post Graduate programme in Management for Executives ( PGPX ).
• One year Post Graduate Programme for working Managers ( Accelerated Program in General Management ).
• Six months Certificate course in Management for Officers of the Armed Forces.
• Managment Development Programmes (MDPs) for industry, business, agricultural and rural sectors, Public systems governing health, education.
• Faculty Development Programme for teachers in Universities and Colleges.
