SAN DIEGO CHAPTER – AMERICAN SINGLES GOLF ASSOCIATION – AUGUST 2000

San Diego Inaugurates New Chapter!

The newest chapter of the ASGA conducted its inaugural monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 12th at the 94th Aero Squadron Restaurant.  We had 17 interested people in attendance; of these 5 became inaugural members.  The chapter’s newly appointed officers were introduced as follows:

President – Dale Minard

Dale is a retired Naval Chief Petty Officer who chose to remain in San Diego after discovering the climate supported golf 365 days a year.  He’s a self-taught computer geek and woodworker who had the unmitigated gall to spend a year working at the Navy Golf Course shortly after retiring from the service.  Dale is a member of the Southern California Golf Association and carries an index of 11.

We still need volunteers for committees.  Volunteers generally spend 30-60 minutes a week supporting the organization.

First Golf Outing Scheduled

The San Diego Chapter’s first golf outing is scheduled for Saturday, August 5th at the U.S. Navy’s Admiral Baker Golf Course (South).  The first tee time is at 1:42 pm.  Cost for green fees, cart and prize fund is $40.00.  We have reserved 4 tee-times.  The outing is being coordinated by Dale Minard (619) 596-8049 or 596-1238.  We'll get together at a local restaurant after the round for dinner and two present prizes.

Chapter Web Site

We’ve posted our chapter web site. The URL is:  www.oocities.org/sdasga.  Check it our and let us know what you think.

This Month’s Meeting

This month’s meeting will provide our chairpersons an opportunity to report on what their committees have accomplished and where they are going.  Future meetings will also provide status reports from our Treasurer.  We will also hold discussions on future golf and social events (maybe a picnic at a local park before the end of the summer) based on the results of our survey and the availability and talents of our members.  We have a lot to do over the next few months – luckily we have a lot of talented people to do it with.

Cancellation Policy

·    Participants who cancel from an outing after a deposit has been made will lose one-half of their deposit.

·    Participants who cancel 30 days or less prior to departure of an out-of-town event, and can be replaced will be charged a 50% cancellation fee on monies paid toward the event (to date).  Participants who cannot be replaced will forfeit all monies paid.

·    No shows, and those who cancel within 48 hours of an event will forfeit all monies paid.

·    Participants who do not pay for an event at the time of sign-up will be placed on the alternate list until payment is received.  Once payment is received, they will be placed on the main event list, based upon availability.

A Picture’s Worth a 1000 words

Any shutterbugs in the group?  We can use your support in building a photo history of the chapter.  Those of you with digital cameras can email your photos (with a description of the who/what/when/where) to Dale Minard.  I also have a scanner so you can send me your standard photos via snail mail at 1598 Stone Edge Circle, El Cajon, CA 92021-2971 – all photos will be returned within one week.

The Locker Room

·    Got a good story about a member or a group of members you’d like to share?

·    Shoot a personal best by   breaking 100, 90, 80 or 70 for the first time?

·    Make a Hole-In-One or sink a long putt on a par 5 after crunching 2 long shots for an EAGLE?

Send us the details and we’ll share your stories with the rest of the chapter – remember, every great story starts with a tee-time.
