About the Area The town of Carolina Beach is located on Pleasure Island, just south of historic Wilmington, North Carolina. Pleasure Island is a seven and a half mile island founded in 1857 initially as a local seaside resort, but has rapidly developed into a prime vacation destination for many along the east coast, and all over the United States. Though the island itself is small, it and its surrounding areas have a great deal to offer. Carolina Beach has miles of beach front that is accessible, uncrowded, and clean. The town itself houses an amusement park, two boardwalks, a water park, and aquarium. There is a marina in the center of town that offers sunset cruises and chartered fishing trips. If you are in the mood for hiking, Carolina Beach State Park is located on the north-end of town with miles of hiking trails along the Cape Fear River. Fort Fisher is located just south of town with tours of the civil war battlefield and free museum. The island has multiple seafood and other family restaurants, large grocery store, medical facilities, and movie theater. The closest airport is located in Wilmington. Wilmington is approximately 10 miles north of Carolina Beach (the airport is about 20 miles away). It is a charming city, with its downtown located on the Cape Fear Riverfront. There you will find multiple museums, riverboat rides, the USS North Carolina Battleship (available for tours), unique shopping at the Chandler Wharf Shops, and much more!
