Impact of Adolf Hitler

The actions of Adolf Hitler have had a tremendous impact on the lives of people not just in Germany but all over the world. When Hitler came to power in 1933, he set about creating a 'Thousand Year Reich', in other words, an empire that would last a thousand years. He and his supporters had high hopes that Nazi rule would go on forever. In fact, Hitler's Third Reich lasted only twelve years. It ended in 1945, with Germany's defeat in the Second World War and Hitler's own suicide admistthe ruins of Berlin.

The Nazis had always attacked the Jews, blaming them for all of Germany's problems. Once in power, Nazis began a campaign of anti-semitic persecution. In 1935, the Nuremberg Laws forbade Jews to marry non-Jews. The laws also took away from all Jews their rights as German Citizens.

The story you will read later is about a girl named Anne Frank from Germany who was only 13-years-old when all Jews were widely persecuted by the Nazis. Anne Frank constantly went into hiding all the time with her family to escape from the Nazis. They were eventually arrested on August 4, 1944 due to a tip-off.

The story of Anne Frank was told to the world by her father, Otto Frank, who later died in Birsfelden, a surburb of Basel, Switzerland, on August 19, 1980, at the age of ninety-one.
