Today, the majority of the Sakya nuns live at the Sakya Nunnery at Dekyi Ling. The facility is optimally suited for 150 trainees, but with 200 now in residence, it is very overcrowded.
The new wing being built at the Sakya Nunnery will hold 84 nuns. This is the basis for intake of new nuns, from the long list of females waiting to be accepted into the nunnery. Some of these refugee nuns must have live outside the nunnery for the interim phase.
From amongst the large group, 35 shall effectively leave to study higher philosophical studies at the Sakya Nuns' Institute. |

There are about 250 nuns, from the youngest aged 4, to the most senior at 70. Most nuns attend in-house classes in Hindi, English and Tibetan and perform Tara pujas.
As we provide a brisk cup of tea on a cold morning, flowers for the
shrine, nutritious food, medical expenses, we open our hearts. We wish
for the nuns to have the basic needs, food and drink, decent
accommodation, a proper place and the means to continue their dedicated
practices. We reach out from our innate ability to connect with
others; and each sustaining gesture helps keep Tibetan nuns, as well as
their noble tradition, alive in today's world. Step by step, together
we can make a difference. |
